On a recent weekend trip to Glasgow I had the chance to stay at the Apex Hotel Glasgow. A modern 4 star hotel just a few minutes walk from Glasgow Central Station. I paid just £71 for a “City View” room, but there was no view to speak of besides a scaffolded office building. The room did pretty much have everything you could need for a short stay and staff were friendly. For a one night stay this hotel is a pretty good option. The free Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is a must visit in my opinion. For a mix or natural history, archaeology and Scottish art & culture. Further out from the centre is the Riverside Museum. Also free to enter and with an amazing range of transport stuff ranging from motorbikes and cars to steam trains and even a giant sailing ship. For people intoin architecture, the Riverside Building was also designed by Zaha Hadid.

Food-wise there are some pretty good restaurants in Glasgow as you’d expect of a city this size. Near the hotel we went to Ardnamurchan, a gastro pub style place serving Scottish food. And if you want some trashier food, filipino fried chicken chain Jollibee is good too. Finally, in the western parth of the city near the Kelvingrove museum (picture left) we went to a great seafood restaurant called Crabshakk.

I was only here for a day and didn’t have dinner or breakfast here so can’t really say anything of value about the hotel’s public areas. I will say that the restaurant area was nice and had a bar/lounge area if you want a drink. Staff were friendly at checkin & checkout and the hotel’s overall style was good.

The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows and a soft duvet. Everything was tidy and free of dust. There were also plenty of plugs, sockets and amenities such as an ironing board, hair dryer, kettle etc. More than I’ve experienced in many similarly priced hotels in fact. The toilet was nice and modern too, with good toiletries. The shower was on the weaker side though.

The only really issue I had with the room is that the bedsheets were not very clean. A couple of areas had what looked like small blood stains. I took a picture of one of these but it wasn’t captured very well. Whatever the stain was, it’s not something I want to see in my hotel bed.

Besides the stained sheets there were no other issues. I will say that some of the decorating (e.g. finish around the skirting boards) felt a bit shabby and deteriorated, but not a big issue.
