London Heathrow Terminal 2 Lounge Overview

Heathrow Terminal 2 has quite a few lounge options but most of these require you to travel with specific airlines. If you’re not flying Business Class or have Frequent Flyer status your options are quite limited. The Plaza Premium Lounge will be the only choice if you’re paying in cash for entry. You can also use a Priority Pass membership to access this lounge for free. And if you have either American Express Platinum or Gold cards you can also access the Lufthansa Senator/Business Lounge (which I’ll hopefully review in a few weeks).

Also, one small thing I appreciate about Heathrow Terminal 2 is that they’re one of the few airlines that doesn’t funnel you through a massive duty free shop as soon as you enter. There is obviously a duty free here, but you can pass through the whole airport to your gate without needing to go through it.

Finding the lounge is pretty simple. After passing through security you simply head down the stairs and past the transfer desks and it’s hard to miss. There are also lots of signs throughout the airport to direct you.

The Plaza Premium Lounge

Plaza Premium have a lounge in pretty much every major airport around the world. And their quality is pretty hit or miss. For example, the Plaza Premium in Heathrow Terminal 5 (which I reviewed here) is just bad. Meanwhile, the Plaza Premium in Heathrow Terminal 4 is pretty good (according to Headforpoints at least)

This first thing you notice entering the lounge is the aesthetic. With very dark colours and abstract art it’s modern but also feels quite cosy. The artwork specifically is all by one artist (can’t remember the name) was quite strange. Every picture was just different coloured circles as you can see below. I don’t quite get it, but it does add to the overall ambience.

Seating

Despite the terminal being relatively quiet on the day we travelled the lounge was surpisingly full. That made it relatively hard for us to find 2 seats next to each other, but they were still available. Just bear in mind that the best seats will probably be taken.

The standard seating is your typical lounge chairs. Relatively comfy, each had a private table and individual power sockets. Overall it was relatively clean but a bit past it’s prime. The fabric was a bit scraggly so could do with replacing soon.

They also have a few semi-private cubicle seats (which were all taken when I went) and some high tables with bar stools (picture below). And lastly there were a few secluded desk if you want to get some work done.

Food & Drink

Included in your lounge visit are some complimentary drinks. The menu is found by the bar, and you can see it at 00:52 in my youtube video above. Complimentary drinks include one type of white wine and one red. Spirits include Gordon’s Gin, Smirnoff Vodka, Famous Grouse Whisky and Bacardi White Rum. Lastly there is Carlsberg and Angelo Poretti beer. The paid menu seems relatively cheap with wines costing between £5-6.50 for a 125ml glass, and you can even buy a bottle of prosecco for £25. I didn’t get anything as it wasn’t even 8am yet when I visited. But if you want to load up on booze before a long flight then this is a good option.

The bar was good, but the food options are just okay. Perhaps this just applies to breakfast and lunch/dinner has more to offer though. You can get a Full English Breakfast, and the offering there did look good, but crucially there was no bacon! But besides that the only cooked option was some toast and some pancakes. I did end up getting a pancake and smearing it in maple syrup, and it was good actually.

For cold food there are some simple salad options, a few breakfast cereals, fruits, muffins, pastries, yoghurts and bread. Basically what you would expect from a large-ish lounge like this. Not as good as some lounges, like British Airways Galleries Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 5, but definitely enough to get a full meal worth.

Then to round things off there’s a coffee machine, lots of tea, a fridge full of Coke, Pepsi, Tango and Sprite. And lastly, some big coolers full of water, flavoured water and orange juice.

Facilities

Apart from everything above they do also have shower facilities and private rest rooms. You do have to pay extra for these (£25 for a shower and the private room depends on how long you stay). You can see the price list by scrolling up to the top of the page. I didn’t try out either, but based off the picture from their website below it looks quite good. Definitely worth considering if you have a layover and need a shower.

If you haven’t paid for a rest room or shower then there isn’t much to talk about. Besides the toilets, which were kept clean. That’s basically all.

Final Thoughts

The Plaza Premium Lounge Heathrow Terminal 2 is a relatively good lounge. It was very busy when I visited which slightly takes away from the experience. But the seating is generally comfortable and clean. Plus there are multiple options, from standard lounge chairs, private work spaces, bar stools or dining tables. The food options are fine too, though options are a bit limited, and who serves a Full English Breakfast with no bacon!?

Overall, if you have access through a lounge membership (like Priority Pass) or by flying with a certain airline then definitely give the lounge a visit. If you’re paying in cash I would think twice. £45 for 2 hours is only really worth it if you’re loading up on a lot of food and drink.
