The Pullman Danang Beach Resort Review: Calm Luxury just Moments From Central Da Nang

I had the chance to stay at the Pullman Danang Beach Resort on a recent trip to Vietnam. This luxury 5 star hotel is located about 15 minutes taxi ride from the airport, 10 minutes from central Da Nang and 25 minutes from Hoi An. It’s also nestled on one of the biggest and most popular beaches in all of Vietnam. I stayed in their “Deluxe room” and overall had a very good experience. I paid £301 (7.6M VND) for two nights through Booking.com, and thanks to a Genius discount got a free room upgrade. Please watch my Youtube video below to see the full experience!

The Hotel

The Pullman Danang is part of the Accor Hotel Group. This means you’ll be able to earn points through the Accor Live Limitless points programme or get perks such as room upgrades and free breakfasts if you already hold status with Accor. You can see a list of all of the Accor membership perks here. However, with the Accor Group being relatively small compared to competitors such as Marriott and IHG I don’t think it’s worth the effort unless you really want to stay at Accor hotels. However, they do actually have a good choice of hotels in Vietnam like the Sofitel Metropole in Hanoi.

Room

We stayed in a “Deluxe Room“, upgraded for free from the original “Superior Room“. Though as far as I can tell the only difference is that the Superior room is on the lower floors whilst the Deluxe is on the higher floors. The interiors are identical.

You’ll find a huge double bed with plentiful pillows and a soft, clean duvet. There’s also good seating, an average sized tv and a small balcony. I’m sure some balconies have a good view but ours at least just overlooked the lobby.

Overall a pretty good room. Standard for a 5 star beach resort like this but everything felt relatively new and was kept clean. So nothing to complain about when it comes to the room with the exception of one smal light in the corner which wouldn’t turn off. We spent about 5 minutes trying different combinations of switches and scouring the room for a hidden switch. But for the life of me I couldn’t find it so ended up just unscrewing the bulb.

The Bathroom was also rather nice. The picture to the right shows the view of the bath from the bedroom. Glass bathroom walls may not be to everybody’s taste but personally I like them. Though if you’re staying with someone you’re not overly close with privacy may be an issue.

There are plenty of toiletries and amenities like a toothbrush set and hair comb which is always useful.

Beach & Pool

The beach at the Pullman Da Nang was definitely the highlight for me. Da Nang’s beach is over 30km of uninterrupted sand, stretching from a mountain in north to Hoi An in the south. From the Pullman Hotel you can see the towering skyscrapers of Da Nang and if the weather is good you can see the 70m tall Lady Buddha statue. Unfortunately it was a bit hazy whilst we were there so could barely make it out.

The sand is fine and the sea is warm. Though it was windy so the waves made it hard to swim. Whilst the main beach is public but there is a private hotel area further back within the trees. Here you’ll find sunbeds, bean bags, hammocks and sofas for couples. As well as a sand football pitch which guests can use.

The large infinity pool is found at the edge of the beach. Surrounded by sun beds and a beach bar, it’s not half bad. The size is impressive, which is good as it ended up getting pretty busy. The heat was also good, being slightly warmer than the sea.

There is also a spa, see here for full details. I didn’t make use of this but after having a look around it seemed nice. Prices for massages and treatments were pretty cheap for a hotel spa.

Restaurants & Food

I didn’t have a chance to eat lunch or dinner at the hotel (the local restaurants were too good). However, I did have breakfast and a drink at the beach lounge bar.

A buffet breakfast at Epice Restaurant runs from 6:30 am to 10:30 am. With a wide range of foods of all cuisines, mainly focusing on Western, Vietnamese, Korean and Chinese. The Vietnamese food especially was great. I had Bún bò Huế (Spicy beef noodle soup) one day and Bánh ít trần (sticky rice and pork dumplings). The Western options are good too, with everything you need to make a full english breakfast. I didn’t try much of the Korean/Japanese fare but it all looked good too.

There’s also a barista coffee service where they’ll make you a selection of coffee. I usually just got the black Vietnamese coffee, but here’s the iced condensed milk coffee my partner got.

I also had the chance to try out the beach bar, part of the Azure Beach Lounge Restaurant. It’s a lovely setting with friendly staff and an extensive menu. However, prices here are surprisingly expensive. Their signature drink, the Pullman Connection, was great. But at 350,000 VND (£12) it felt like I was in London rather than Vietnam.

Final Thoughts

Overall I was pretty impressed with the Pullman Danang Beach Resort. It’s by no means the most luxurious hotel I’ve ever stayed at. But for about £150/night I can’t really fault them. It’s just a solid beach resort, great for a short, or long, stay in Da Nang. It’s a short taxi ride from the airport, central Da Nang, Hoi An and the Marble Mountains. And considering it’s central location it felt surprisingly calm.

The offer a good room, good breakfast, good pool and amazing beach. I’m not convinced the restaurant food would be worth the price when local restaurants have such affordable and delicious offerings though. But they do have quite a tasty looking menu.

If you’re planning to visit Da Nang/Hoi An then The Pullman Danang will make a great base to stay and relax.
